“Twisters” (2024) is a disaster film directed by Lee Isaac Chung and written by Mark L. Smith, based on a story by Joseph Kosinski. Serving as a standalone sequel to the 1996 film “Twister”. The story follows Kate Carter, a meteorologist who works with her storm chaser friends Javi, Addy, Praveen, and her boyfriend Jeb. Together, they launch barrels of sodium polyacrylate beads into a tornado to reduce its intensity and secure funding for further research. However, the tornado unexpectedly intensifies into an EF5, killing Jeb, Addy, and Praveen while Javi and Kate survive. Blaming herself for underestimating the tornado, Kate quits storm chasing and takes a job at a NOAA office in New York City. Five years later, Javi convinces Kate to return to Oklahoma to test a new tornado scanning system using phased-array radar. Reluctantly, Kate agrees and joins Javi’s team, Storm Par. They soon find themselves competing with Tyler Owens, a popular YouTube storm chaser known as the “Tornado Wrangler,” and his team. As storm season intensifies, Kate and Tyler must put aside their differences to save lives and uncover the mysteries behind the unprecedented tornado activity. With its intense storm-chasing sequences and emotional depth, “Twisters” promises to be a gripping tale of human resilience and the power of nature, capturing the thrill and danger of chasing the most destructive tornadoes on Earth.
