“The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan” (2023) is the first part of a two-part epic saga directed by Martin Bourboulon, based on Alexandre Dumas’s classic novel. The film follows the journey of D’Artagnan, a spirited young man from Gascony, who is left for dead after trying to save a noblewoman from being kidnapped. Determined to find his attackers, D’Artagnan arrives in Paris and seeks out the Musketeers of the Guard. Upon meeting Capitaine de Tréville, the commander of the musketeers, D’Artagnan is encouraged to start a military career as a cadet. However, his quest for justice leads him to unintentionally offend three musketeers: Athos, Porthos, and Aramis, who each demand satisfaction through duels. As D’Artagnan prepares for these duels, he realizes that Athos’s seconds are Porthos and Aramis, who admire his fearlessness. As the story unfolds, D’Artagnan becomes entangled in the dark machinations of Cardinal Richelieu, and falls madly in love with Constance Bonacieux, the Queen’s confidante. His passion for Constance puts him in grave danger, especially when he crosses paths with his mortal enemy, Milady de Winter. The film is packed with action, romance, and adventure, and features a star-studded cast including François Civil, Vincent Cassel, Romain Duris, Pio Marmaï, and Eva Green. It sets the stage for the second part, “The Three Musketeers: Milady” (2024), which continues the thrilling saga.
