The main heroine of the series “Death and Nightingales” Elizabeth Winter – a young woman living with her stepfather, who is a wealthy landowner. He is a Protestant who married her mother a Catholic. In the nineteenth century in Ireland there was a fierce conflict between Catholics and Protestants, which escalated into real enmity. The heroine’s mother did not want to give up her faith, for which her husband began to oppress the woman in every possible way. This led to her death, and Elizabeth stayed with a man who loved her like a daughter.
