Funny Woman Season 2 continues the story of Barbara Parker, also known as Sophie Straw, a working-class woman from Blackpool who has become a beloved TV comedy star in the 1960s. As the season begins, Sophie is frustrated with being typecast as a comic muse in traditional comedy shows. Seeking more creative freedom, she ventures into art house cinema, hoping for a more progressive environment, but finds it equally limiting. Determined to tell her own stories, Sophie decides to create her own comedy show, aiming to reflect her real life and challenge outdated cultural conventions. Despite challenges, Sophie lands a leading role in a successful film opposite a glamorous French movie star, which boosts her career. Offered a fresh start in Hollywood by a slick US agent, Sophie ultimately returns to London, resolved to reunite with her friends and create a new show that truly represents her voice and experiences.
