Halley is a young single mother who could not find herself in modern America. The only thing that brightens up the dreary life of Halley is Moonee her daughter, a brisk six-year-old who is operating in the neighborhood as a real bandit. Together with the same small but snooty neighbors, Moonee “terrorizes” the local motel, where she and her mother had to stop for lack of an opportunity to rent an apartment. For the reckless kids, whose life can hardly get any worse, there are no barriers except the harsh manager of the motel Bobby Hicks, who in fact is their main patron.
