Girls5eva Season 1 follows a 1990s girl group that managed to score only one hit before fading into obscurity. Twenty years later, the group gets an unexpected chance at a comeback when their song is sampled by an up-and-coming rapper named Lil Stinker. The members, now in their 40s, reunite to give their pop star dreams one more shot, all while balancing their current lives, which include spouses, kids, jobs, debt, and aging parents. The main characters include Dawn Solano, played by Sara Bareilles, who now works at her brother’s Italian restaurant and has a son with her husband; Summer Dutkowsky, portrayed by Busy Philipps, who is married but mostly neglected by her husband and lives in a mansion with her daughter; Gloria McManus, played by Paula Pell, a dentist who is divorced from her wife; and Wickie Roy, portrayed by Renée Elise Goldsberry, who pretends to have a glamorous life for social media but is actually struggling. The season explores their journey as they navigate the challenges of re-entering the music industry, rekindling old friendships, and finding their place in the world again.
