An ordinary family goes on a fantastic adventure to the past times on the prehistoric Earth as an experiment of saving the human race. In the year of 2149 the world is dying. The planet is overpopulated and polluted. All the nature is destroyed. Scientific development has led humanity to death but at the same time it is the only thing that can help. Realizing that it is impossible to restore the planet, scientists have come up with a portal to the prehistoric times. This portal leads to an amazing world that can help to save the human race and maybe even change the future on the basis of former mistakes. In the middle of the action is Shannon family that has joined the first emigration wave to Terra Nova, the first human colony on the prehistoric Earth.

Jim Shannon is a faithful father with the great experience; he leads his family into this new world of endless beauty, mystery and horror. Jim’s wife, Elisabeth Shannon, trauma surgeon, won the participation at the Terra Nova medical team on a lottery. Josh Shannon, their son, misses his girlfriend who was left in the future and is torn between the authority of his father and the charismatic commander Frank Taylor, the leader of the colony, and the heroic pioneer who was the first one to walk through the portal. Maddie Shannon, daughter of Jim and Elizabeth, is as independent and brave as her parents. But since her non-acceptance of the authorities she gets on a dangerous way. Together with the blue sky, flowing rivers and lush vegetation, Terra Nova offers new opportunities to the arrived, but the Shannons hide a secret that may threaten their stay in this utopia. To say more, the travelers will soon find out that Terra Nova is not as ideal as it seems. In the surrounding territories there are dangerous dinosaurs and other prehistoric monsters and nature powers that can destroy the new world. But the biggest threat is hidden inside of the Terra Nova protection barrier: the Shannons start to realize that not everyone on the mission has good intentions of saving the humanity.
