In the center of events is the story of adolescents who are constantly in search of unforgettable adventures. Once they go to the forest, and the next morning half of the teenagers were found dead. The rest disappeared in an unknown direction. For a long time, a man named Paul Copeland has been in the position of district attorney. He works in the quiet, provincial town of Essex, located in New Jersey. Much time has passed since the disappearance of his younger sister, but he still thinks about the details of that day. In addition to unpleasant memories, he is forced to raise a growing daughter in solitude. The wife died of cancer, and was another loss for him. At first glance, it seems that all the troubles are in the distant past. But an unexpected acquaintance with surviving people makes you think about a lot.
