London forties of the eighteenth century. The Trenchard family is considered the richest people in England who have purchased property in a luxurious area of the city called Belgravia. It seemed to the man that a change of place would allow him to forget about troubles and start all over from scratch. Once upon a time he had a daughter named Sofia. In 1815, she fell in love with a young aristocrat. During the Battle of Waterloo, the guy dies, and she is in the eighth month of pregnancy. From experienced stress, childbirth begins earlier than the appointed time, as a result of which the girl dies in terrible agony. Considering the small grandson to be an illegitimate child, James and his wife decide to give him up to another family. Then it seemed to them that they had made the only right choice. The main characters did not suspect that in the distant future this decision would entail a whole host of incredible consequences.
