The fisherwoman Maria lives in Ancient Israel, in the town of Magdala on the shore of Genisareth Lake. The father wants to marry her to the newly widowed city dweller, but Maria does not aspire to become a wife and mother. She feels that she has a different purpose. When the healer Jesus comes to Magdala, he is invited to expel from Maria the “demon of contradiction”. However, Jesus does not find anything devilish in the girl. He tells Mary about his teaching, and the girl decides to become his disciple and follower. The movie “Mary Magdalene” tells how she breaks with her family, receives baptism and leaves Magdala with Jesus and his other disciples.
