As the present-day story moves through pubs, hospital rooms, old haunts, and painful conversations with Anna, Iona, Tibbs, Hogg, Limbo, Barbara, and Fiona, flashbacks return to the boys they once were: loud, hopeful, frightened, and desperate to live differently from their fathers.
