The action begins with the moment Mildred gets a job in a clinic for the insane in 1947 and gradually turns into a cruel, unprincipled, pityless monster for all hospital patients. The nurse was famous for the perfect order in her department. All those who worked and were treated in this department were obliged, under pain of punishment, to observe the rules invented by her. This technique suppressed the will of “dissenters”, but Mildred herself enjoyed it.
